Purpose:
This policy aims to promote a healthy, safe, and clean environment at the University of Telafer by regulating smoking practices on campus. It seeks to protect students, staff, and visitors from the harmful effects of smoking, in line with Ministry of Health recommendations, while providing an appropriate educational and working environment.
Scope:
This policy applies to all students, staff, faculty members, visitors, and anyone present on university premises, including indoor and outdoor areas, as well as university-owned vehicles.
Policy Provisions:
- Non-Smoking Areas:
- Smoking is strictly prohibited in all enclosed university spaces, including classrooms, offices, libraries, laboratories, and dormitories.
- Smoking is also prohibited in all university-owned vehicles and in outdoor areas such as entrances, courtyards, and shared spaces where others may be exposed to tobacco smoke.
- Designated smoking areas are provided in specific outdoor locations, away from crowded and populated areas, to minimize exposure for non-smokers.
- Prohibited Products:
- This policy covers all forms of smoking and tobacco products, including cigarettes, cigars, pipes, electronic cigarettes (vapes), and any other vaporizing devices.
- The use of smokeless tobacco products (e.g., chewing tobacco) is also prohibited within university buildings and university-owned vehicles.
- Awareness and Communication:
- Clear signage indicating smoking and non-smoking areas are posted throughout the campus to ensure compliance.
- The university regularly distributes educational materials about the harmful effects of smoking, including passive smoking, to students and staff.

Gender Equity
